Rangers will be without midfielder Steven Davis for their Europa League clash with Red Star Belgrade on Thursday night.

The lowdown

Rangers are set to battle Red Star for a place in the last eight of the Europa League, with the first leg due to take place at Ibrox tonight.

£13,000-per-week veteran Davis hasn't featured in The Gers' last three matchday squads in the Scottish Premiership.

The Gers were already down one player in the form of Ianis Hagi, who's out until the end of the season after undergoing knee surgery.

The latest

Football Scotland Editor Ryan McDonald relayed the news from Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

Davis is 'not available' to face the reigning Serbian champions 'as he has an injury'.

He may not be the only fresh absentee, with 'a couple' of other players also considered 'doubts'.

Elsewhere, January signing Aaron Ramsey will once again begin the game on the bench.

The verdict

How big a miss is Davis for Van Bronckhorst and Rangers?

Well, he's played 24 games this season, including all of their Europa League group stage fixtures (starting five).

In fact, Davis was involved pretty heavily before the turn of the year and earned plaudits for his performances, with former Motherwell defender Stephen Craigan hailing him as 'a joy to watch' . He's even captained the side on two occasions.

But now he seems to have slipped down the pecking order at Ibrox, in part due to injury problems, and it will be a great shame for the player personally to miss out on such a big occasion tonight.

In other news, Chris Jack has expressed an exodus concern.
