Speaking in a press conference, Rangers boss Steven Gerrard confirmed a late blow with defender Leon Balogun set to miss the Gers’ clash with Motherwell this afternoon alongside Ryan Jack – with the latter man still in recovery and unable to take part today for the Ibrox side.
Balogun, who has formed a steady partnership with Conor Goldson in the centre of defence for the Teddy Bears, will miss Motherwell today as the Glasgow Rangers follow protocol after a head knock.
Balogun set for Rangers absence vs Motherwell
The ‘fantastic‘ 32-year-old was substituted during the Gers’ 3-2 defeat at St. Mirren in midweek after suffering from a clash of heads with John Obika – as the club now have to follow protocol and rule out Balogun for his own safety.
He joins fellow star Ryan Jack on the sidelines for this game as Gerrard confirmed he has not fully recovered – saying he is ‘close’ but ‘won’t make the weekend’.
Gerrard has been utilising Balogun alongside Goldson as his main central defensive pairing as Rangers currently sit pretty at the top of the SPFL table, aiming to reach an historic total of 55 league titles and deny fierce rivals Celtic 10 in a row.
Transfer Tavern take
As it is confirmed Balogun will miss Motherwell, it remains to be seen how Rangers will cope with that loss and who will be slotted in place of the defender.
The Well may not be an easy task, even despite a large 26 point gap between them in the league, with the away side boasting an arguably impressive record on the road so far this season.
Indeed, Motherwell have only lost two matches on their travels, and Rangers will have to be at their best to overcome them this afternoon.
