Glasgow Rangers gem Alex Lowry is reportedly 'looking good in training' and the club are 'conversing' over when he can return to first team action.

The Lowdown: Lengthy lay-off

Lowry has been sidelined with injury since he was the victim of a horrific tackle against Dumbarton back in August, and is yet to make a first team appearance so far this season (Transfermarkt).

For the Rangers B team, the attacking midfielder had recorded an impressive five goals and one assist in his opening five games in total over all competitions (Transfermarkt), and would have been a player that Giovanni van Bronckhorst would have been looking to give more first team opportunities to.

The Latest: Training well

Taking to Twitter on Tuesday afternoon, The Rangers Review journalist Derek Clark has shared an update from Rangers B boss David McCallum, in that while today's UEFA Youth League match against Liverpool will come 'too soon' for Lowry, he is 'looking good in training', and they are currently 'conversing' over when he could return to the first team:

"David McCallum tells me tomorrow’s #UYL game with Liverpool comes too soon for Alex Lowry but that he’s looking good in training and they’re conversing with the 1st team as to when he can get back playing games."

The Verdict: Promising

It is certainly promising to hear that Lowry is making progress on his recovery in training, and that he could return to first team action fairly soon.

The 19-year-old made seven first team appearances last term, scoring two goals and supplying a further two assists (Transfermarkt), impressive numbers indeed for a player still so young and learning his trade.

Nonetheless, the Gers will now be hoping that he can get some games under his belt before the squad breaks off for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
