Rangers strolled to a 2-0 victory on Sunday - but it could have been different if VAR had intervened over an apparent handball.

The Lowdown: Rangers let off with penalty decision

Michael Beale kept up his unbeaten run since taking charge at Ibrox as his side picked up three points away to Dundee United with a comfortable 2-0 victory thanks to goals from Fashion Sakala and Malik Tillman.

However, it could have been a lot more difficult for the Gers had VAR stepped in and awarded their opponents a spot kick, which it perhaps should have done based on the footage of the incident.

It was Connor Goldson who seemingly lost track of the ball or didn't see it coming as it smacked off his arm inside the penalty area, although neither the on-pitch referee nor the VAR team deemed it to be worthy of a penalty.

The Latest: VAR appears to make big error

Beale and his players can certainly count themselves lucky that VAR either missed the incident or decided it wasn't a handball, with footage of Sky Sports' coverage shared online clearly showing the ball did indeed bounce off Goldson's arm.

The Gers did dominate the game, giving up just one shot on target to their opponents as they fired in 20 efforts of their own - with half of them testing Mark Birighitti - so the win was what they deserved.

The Verdict: Gers end up getting VAR luck

As the stats above show, Rangers didn't necessarily need the help of VAR to miss a clear penalty to get over the line yesterday, however, it certainly will have helped them keep a clean sheet and improve their goal difference.

All Rangers can do at the moment is take care of their own business as they still sit second in the table and nine points behind Celtic, so the three points are all that matter from here on in - Beale won't care how they come.

Of course, the Gers boss would rather his side weren't involved in any controversial decisions and could win the games on their own, however, there's no getting away from the fact they got a major slice of luck from the VAR team on Sunday.
