Sky Sports pundit Kevin Campbell has given his reaction to some news that he has heard involving Glasgow Rangers winger Ryan Kent.

The Lowdown: Contract talks

As cited by Football Scotland, Giovanni van Bronckhorst revealed that the 25-year-old is in talks with the Premiership club over a new contract at Ibrox.

The winger has been linked with a move to the Premier League, namely the likes of Wolves and Aston Villa, so he has been offered a new deal by the Gers in order to try and fend off that interest from England.

The Latest: Campbell reacts

Speaking to Football Insider, Campbell has claimed that it 'would be great' for Rangers if they can tie down Kent to a new deal, adding that he is a 'vital' player for the Light Blues.

The former Arsenal striker said: “I don’t think Kent needs a buyout clause in his contract, if I’m honest.

“If a Premier League club comes in for him, they will put the money down. Rangers would, of course, have to accept a bid but I doubt they would ask for an astronomical amount.

“Kent has been coveted by a few Premier League teams and understandably so. He has been brilliant for Rangers over the past few seasons.

“If they could tie him down to a new deal it would be great. It would protect the club.

“They want to regain the title. Kent will be vital for them if they are to do it. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.”

The Verdict: Get it done

As Campbell referenced, Kent is such a key player for the Light Blues, so they need to get him to sign a new contract as soon as possible.

He ranked as their sixth-best performer in the Premiership last season, scoring two goals and supplying eight assists in 26 games, while he also ranked highly among his team-mates in terms of shots, key passes and dribbles per match (WhoScored).

Also, given that Joe Aribo has already made the move to the Premier League with Southampton this summer, Rangers will not want to lose another of their most important players to the English top flight in the same transfer window.
