Rangers: Light Blues ‘waiting in the wings’ for Nicolas Raskin -Rangers News

Glasgow Rangers are reportedly ‘waiting in the wings’ to sign Nicolas Raskin in the January transfer window.

The Lowdown: Summer transfer talks

It was reported that Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side were in talks to sign the midfielder in the summer, but a move from Standard Liege never materialised in the end.

Hailed as ‘monstrous’ and a ‘leader’ by his manager Ronny Deila in October, the 21-year-old has played in every game for which he has been available so far this season, scoring one goal and supplying a further four assists, as per Transfermarkt.

Raskin is out of contract in the summer, meaning that he can leave as a free agent at the end of the campaign, or for a cut-price fee in January.

The Latest: Rangers ‘waiting’ for Raskin

As per Belgian news outlet Le Soir, ‘several representatives’ from Europe have been in contact with Liege regarding the 21-year-old’s availability in January, as his team prepare to jet off to Marbella for a warm-weather training camp.

Both Rangers and Serie A side Spezia are thought to be ‘waiting in the wings’ for Raskin, but Liege are hopeful that he will sign an extension to his contract.

The Verdict: Reinforcements needed at Ibrox

After a poor start to the season, which has seen Rangers crash out of their Champions League group and linger nine points behind bitter rivals Celtic in the Premiership table, they appear to be in desperate need of reinforcements in January.

Rangers fans! Do you know how many Gers players are going to the 2022 World Cup?

Averaging more tackles and dribbles per game and having more assists than any Gers central midfielder in their respective domestic leagues, Raskin would certainly help to elevate the quality of Van Bronckhorst’s side, and potentially signing him for a cut-price fee should give the Teddy Bears even more of an incentive to get a deal done.

The Belgian is only 21, so his ceiling is still pretty high, meaning that his value should increase drastically over the next few years.
