Glasgow Rangers have reportedly pulled off a 'massive transfer coup' by signing 18-year-old winger Thompson Ishaka.

The Lowdown: Was on trial

Ishaka was on trial for Rangers B in July, and gave Elgin City's Darryl McHardy 'nightmares' in a 4-0 pre-season friendly win.

A clip went viral on social media of Ishaka beating four men and carrying the ball 80 yards up the field, with the invite to come in trial coming after Ishaka was named man-of-the-match at the English Schools Football Association U18 Finals.

The Latest: Set to sign

As per Allnigeriasoccer.com, Rangers are now 'on the brink' of confirming the signing of Ishaka, as he has 'already put pen to paper' on a deal, with official confirmation 'pending' from the club.

The deal could not be completed in July because he was too young, but now 18, he is old enough to sign it.

The report describes the deal as a 'massive transfer coup', as he was courted by a number of top clubs in Europe, including Manchester City, Chelsea and PSV.

Ishaka was in the Rangers U19 squad that travelled to Morocco this week to compete in a tournament, and so it seems like the Nigerian will be a Gers player.

The Verdict: One for the future

Ishaka clearly has a lot of promise, and will be a great addition to Rangers' B side for the rest of the season.

The winger will want to impress at youth level and catch the eye of Michael Beale, who may eventually consider bringing him into the first-team fold.

Nonetheless, beating two Premier League giants in City and Chelsea as well as PSV to his signature will feel like a major coup for the Light Blues, and all that is left is confirmation that he has officially put pen to paper.
