Egyptian winger Mahmoud Saber has told The Daily Record that he has been approached by Glasgow Rangers regarding a potential move to Ibrox – but the Gers face stiff competition for his signature.
Steven Gerrard’s side have made a good start to the Premiership season, winning their first two games as they already lie two points ahead of their fierce Glasgow rivals Celtic. The Ibrox outfit have already moved to sign the likes of Ianis Hagi, Cedric Itten and Kemar Roofe, and there is still plenty of time before the transfer window slams shut in October for them to bring in other names as well.
Saber says that the Gers have their eye on him. He explained:
“Because I have never signed a professional contract with Al-Ahly, I am deemed an amateur player and can sign for a new club for nothing.
“I have offers from Rangers in Scotland, Valencia in Spain and Benfica from Portugal as well as a big club in Tunisia. I will make my decision soon.
“I have European agents sorting my future and I hope to be in a position to sign for my new club shortly.”
Saber, who has been dubbed the “new Mohamed Salah” in his homeland, is yet to make a professional appearance, but he has impressed at youth level, scoring eight goals and providing a huge 30 assists last year as Al Ahly won the national youth league.
Would you like to sign Mahmoud Saber?
As he himself said, he could be signed on a free transfer as he has not yet signed a professional deal. As such, this could be a fantastic bargain for Ross Wilson and the 54-time Scottish champions.
