According to Alan Nixon, Glasgow Rangers target Rodrigo Riquelme is now being eyed by Bournemouth despite him reportedly being close to a loan switch to Reading.
The Gers have previously been linked with a move for the Atletico Madrid youngster, but it had appeared that Reading were in pole position to land him.
Now, the Cherries, who were relegated from the Premier League last term, have now entered the race for his loan signature.
The battle for the 20-year-old, who has a release clause of €30m (£27.2m), appears to be heating up. The youngster has plenty of promise, with him making his first steps in Los Rojiblancos’ first team last season, appearing twice, whilst he impressed in the UEFA Youth League in particular, scoring twice and making four assists in just seven matches.
Would you like to sign Rodrigo Riquelme?
There is plenty of attacking talent on the flanks available to Diego Simeone in the likes of Angel Correa, Thomas Lemar, Vitolo and Yannick Carrasco – as such, Riquelme should depart temporarily to increase his chances of playing on a regular basis. Unfortunately for the Gers, though, it seems unlikely he will move to Scotland. Given the lack of talk about their interest more recently, however, perhaps that is something they will not be too disappointed by.
