The latest reports are suggesting that Glasgow Rangers are interested in bringing back an attacker to Ibrox as Steven Gerrard continues to try to improve his squad to challenge for the Premiership title.
The media outlet also has reported that Championship sides Sheffield Wednesday, where Windass recently enjoyed a loan spell, and Middlesbrough are also interested in the Wigan Athletic man.
In his spell at Glasgow Rangers, the attacking midfielder played 73 times and picked up 19 goals and 13 assists, per Transfermarkt. Since then he has been playing in the Championship at Wigan and more recently on loan at Sheffield Wednesday from the Latics.
In the Championship, he has scored 12 times, whilst managing four assists in 65 appearances, per Transfermarkt, which highlights that he has struggled to hit top form as of late.
However the fact that he has played in Scotland before and did well at that level could see him be considered as a very good signing, especially to improve the quality of the squad. His goal tally was better in Scotland than in the Championship, so it highlights that maybe football north of the border is more suited to him.
Overall, if the club can get him for a decent deal then it would be a good transfer, but with other interested parties circling his price could be pushed up. He is currently valued at £1.44 million by Transfermarkt, and with the Scottish side possibly getting around £17 million for Alfredo Morelos, Windass could be a good addition as Gerrard plans his rebuild.
