The transfer window is still open, and Glasgow Rangers manager Steven Gerrard will be seeing if he can find any good deals to help strengthen the squad for their title challenge this campaign.
With this in mind, it looks like they have already identified a possible target they might try to acquire before the transfer window shuts.
According to Austrian media outlet sport24, the Gers are ready to battle Serie A side and last season’s Champions League quarter-finalists Atalanta, as well as German side Stuttgart for striker Taxiarchis Fountas.
Stuttgart have already started discussions with his current club Rapid Wien so they are currently leading the race for the player and right now it is unknown whether the Gers will make an offer.
The 25 year-old is valued at £2.7 million, per Transfermarkt, and his goal contribution tally across his career is decent as he has managed 44 goals and 24 assists in 198 games.
It seems like he is getting better and better and scoring more goals as he has managed 25 goals in 34 appearances at his current club Wien, and has already managed two goals in his first two league games this season, per Transfermarkt.
To add another addition upfront is always helpful, and despite the fact Jermain Defoe managed 17 goals last season, per Transfermarkt, he is 37, and so the club will need to look for a possible replacement, and Fountas could definitely be this player. He is at a good age and due to the fact that he has scored the most goals at a single club in his career at his current club Rapid Wien highlights that he looks like he is hitting his prime.
The only worry would be the fact he would have to adapt to the SPFL, but he does look like a decent talisman and he would definitely add some good squad depth at the club.
