According to Football Insider, Glasgow Rangers are in talks to move on Greg Docherty, either on loan or in a permanent deal.
The ‘Gers are currently in pursuit of Bongani Zungu. As such, if the South Africa international were to sign, there could well be one too many midfielders in Steven Gerrard’s squad, and they are therefore believed to be in talks to let Docherty go.
They are negotiating with Hibernian in regards to a potential deal, whilst there is also interest from England. Although the deal is most likely to be short-term, a permanent move cannot be ruled out, as per Football Insider.
Docherty joined Hibs on loan at the end of January and impressed during his short spell at the Premiership club – he scored three goals and provided five assists in seven matches.
He also managed to set up three goals in six games for the ‘Gers in the first half of the previous campaign – there is quite clearly talent there, and it is a bit of a surprise that Gerrard does not see him as a part of his immediate plans.
Do you agree with Greg Docherty being loaned or sold?
Having signed for £650,000 in 2018, the ‘Gers should look to let him leave only in the short term at the moment – he is yet to receive a real chance in the side after just 19 appearances since that switch. Although this is a vital year for Docherty to prove that he deserves that opportunity, it is still too soon to sell him.
