However a lot of the news around the club is over the future of Alfredo Morelos, and this is understandable as he is a key player for the squad, and it seems like Ligue 1 side Lille have identified this as they reportedly have made an £18.6 million bid for the forward.
Frank McAvennie has been discussing the transfer speculation, and he has had a lot to say about how key Morelos is for the Gers and also about the rumours.
Speaking to Football Insider, McAvennie said, “Listen, every day there is another team going in for him. He has not gone anywhere but according to the Scottish press he has been wanted by every club in Europe!
“It is stupid and it must be crazy for the player. It will have turned his head at the beginning but now he will be laughing. I would be saying, ‘Who is wanting me today?’ It is incredible and you have to take it as a joke.
“You are only worth what clubs are willing to buy you for and nobody has bought him yet. A massive plus for Rangers because he scores goals and no matter who they have brought in Morelos is their best striker.”
There is no denying the impact that the 24 year-old has had since joining the ‘Gers for £1.08m as he has managed to score 82 goals whilst also supplying 31 assists in 145 appearances for the club, per Transfermarkt. He has started this season really brightly as well as he has played seven times in all competitions and picked up two assists and five goals.
Therefore it is definitely a good thing that the club have currently kept hold of him, and it is definitely a ‘massive plus’. It is also great to see that despite the speculation, the forward is just getting on and playing his football as well as he can without moaning about wanting to leave.
It will be interesting to see if he moves before the window shuts, but Steven Gerrard has absolutely no worry that Morelos will continue to perform as best as he can whilst he is contracted at the club.
