AS Diario (via Sport Witness) have backed up claims that Glasgow Rangers made a bid for Sekou Gassama earlier this summer.
It has previously been reported in the media in Italy that the ‘Gers had made a €3m (£2.7m) offer for the Real Valladolid striker.
The Spanish press have now backed up those claims and have confirmed that a bid was tabled – however, it was turned down by the club owned by Brazil legend Ronaldo.
The ‘Gers have been busy in the transfer window recently, signing Kemar Roofe and Cedric Itten amidst rumours that Alfredo Morelos could soon move to Lille after agreeing personal terms. Of course, there is plenty of time left before the window slams shut in October, but it now seems unlikely that Steven Gerrard will look to add another forward to the options already at his disposal.
It is perhaps for the best that the ‘Gers are unlikely to return for the former Senegal under-20 international, as he does not have the best of records. He scored nine times last term and, even at the age of 25, that is his highest return in a single campaign.
Would you like to sign Gassama?
The Ibrox outfit will be hoping that Itten and Roofe can do the job this season – should they do so, there will be no tears shed over failing to sign Gassama.
