According to Football Insider, Glasgow Rangers have set their sights on a new forward in case Ryan Kent moves to Leeds United this summer.
The newly-promoted Premier League side are interested in the winger, with them even having had an £8.5m bid rejected for the 23-year-old.
There have been suggestions, though, that Kent has a release clause in his contract, which would force the Gers to sell if it is met. As such, they are preparing for the eventuality that he could depart as they eye another attacking option.
Steven Gerrard will no doubt be worried that Kent could leave the club this summer. The £3.15m-valued Liverpudlian – as per Transfermarkt – has had a fantastic start to the new Premiership campaign, scoring three goals in five matches as the Ibrox outfit sit top of the table.
However, the fact of the matter is that even the likes of the Gers and Celtic are always susceptible to losing their best players – they cannot provide the salaries or the quality of opposition that are on offer south of the border. As such, it is about them making as much money as possible when they do move one of their better players on.
Would you be happy to see Ryan Kent leave Rangers?
The good news is that any release clause is at least more than £8.5m, which would give Gerrard and Ross Wilson plenty of funds to bring in a more than adequate replacement. There is no doubt about it – keeping Kent is the number one priority. Having said that, there is nothing wrong in preparing for all possible outcomes.
