It looks like there could be some big transfers involving Glasgow Rangers as Alfredo Morelos is reportedly on the way out, and due to this, the club will need to find a replacement.
Many will wonder how the club will go about their business if the Colombian does leave. Former Coventry City striker Noel Whelan has been discussing the transfer, but believes that Steven Gerrard will only let him go on one condition.
Speaking to Football Insider, Whelan said: “Rangers are in a real predicament with Defoe injured and Morelos linked to go.
“They will not sell Morelos unless they have got a replacement lined up. That is work that needs to be done in the board room.
“They must make sure they have somebody to come in and feel his boots. You cannot let Morelos go unless you have got somebody else. You just can’t.
“They are not blessed with an abundance of top quality strikers at Rangers at the minute. Defoe was one that looked sharp in preseason and is now hampered. They need someone who can play 30, 40 games a season.”
It’s hard to disagree with the points Whelan makes here, Morelos and Jermain Defoe provide a lot of their goals, with the latter getting 13 and Morelos getting 12 in the Scottish Premiership during the 2019/20 campaign.
Therefore it would not be clever for the side to allow the Colombian to go if they do not have a replacement ready and with the Gers wanting around £20 million for the 24 year-old, they could bring in a couple of good attackers, not just one and this could improve Gerrard’s squad greatly.
For now though, supporters of the club will wait to see if a fee can be agreed and this gives the club time to plan a replacement who will hopefully be able to score as many as Morelos has. This will be very big boots to fill as he has managed to score 77 goals in 137 appearances for the Scottish side, but they have already been linked with the likes of Ivan Toney and Lyndon Dykes.
