As per Marca, Glasgow Rangers target Rodrigo Riquelme is on the verge of completing a loan move to Reading.
The Gers have previously been linked to the Atletico Madrid winger, who is just 20 years old.
However, he has been training with the English Championship side recently, and even took part in a friendly with the Royals. As such, he should complete a short-term switch to the Madejski Stadium soon.
The Ibrox outfit’s links to Riquelme do date from earlier this year, so it is not entirely clear whether he is a player they are still pursuing, but he appears to be a youngster with a big future ahead of him. He impressed in the UEFA Youth League last term, scoring twice and providing four assists in seven matches, and he also picked up two appearances for Los Rojiblancos’ first team. He also has a €30m (£27.3m) release clause – Atleti would not want to let him go permanently too easily, it seems.
Would you like to sign Rodrigo Riquelme?
Right-wing is certainly a position in which Steven Gerrard could strengthen – so far this season, Ianis Hagi has played there primarily despite him being an attacking midfielder my trade. It looks like the player to fill that void will not be Riquelme, but Gerrard and Ross Wilson should still be on the look-out for someone else who can slot into that role.
