According to Joe Crann, Glasgow Rangers are closing in on a move for Bongani Zungu.
The Gers have previously been linked with a move for the South Africa international, with the reported fee potentially as high as €5m (£4.5m).
However, it now appears that the Gers are closing in on a deal worth €4m (£3.6m), with the player eager to move to Ibrox to play under Steven Gerrard and in the Europa League.
It looks as though the Gers could be closing in on their fourth senior signing of the summer following the arrivals of Ianis Hagi, Calvin Bassey and Jon McLaughlin. In Zungu, they could well be close to adding an experienced central midfielder into the mix.
He has spent the last three seasons with Amiens in Ligue 1, appearing in 57 matches during that time, whilst he also has 24 caps for his country. He impressed at last year’s African Cup of Nations, scoring twice in four matches for the Bafana Bafana as they made the quarter-finals.
Would you like to sign Bongani Zungu?
At 27 years of age, he has plenty of time ahead of him to show he has what it takes to play for the Gers. Perhaps the only question mark with the deal is whether he is really needed – there is already plenty of competition in the middle of the park in Gerrard’s XI. Still, this could be the kind of player that can help them bridge the gap to Celtic in the Scottish Premiership, even if the transfer fee would be 150% higher than his £1.44m Transfermarkt value.
