According to KickOff, Glasgow Rangers target Bongani Zungu is still in contact with Steven Gerrard, and a loan deal could still be agreed.
Zungu has less than a year left on his current contract, and could be signed on a pre-contract as early as January.
The 27-year-old had reportedly already agreed personal terms with the Gers, but the €4m (£3,7m) asking price prevented a deal from being completed. His current club, Amiens, have maintained that he can move on loan if a new agreement is reached, so that they do not lose him for nothing next year. The South Africa international is also keen on a temporary spell away from the French side, but it is not clear whether he is willing to put pen to paper on an extension.
Out of nowhere, there appears to be life in this deal – all has been quiet in recent weeks after it had been said that a switch was very close. Gerrard has since maintained that he wants to add another midfielder to his squad, but as of yet, he is yet to do so.
Would you like to sign Bongani Zungu?
Zungu, with 24 caps for his country and 52 appearances in Ligue 1, would be an interesting addition to the side, and the Gers could even look to sign him in January ahead of next term on a pre-contract. However, the need for a new player in the middle of the park is there right now – if they want him before October 5th, either Amiens or Zungu himself will need to change their stance.
