According to Football Insider, Glasgow Rangers are interested in signing Abdou Harroui this summer from Sparta Rotterdam, after Ibrox scouts watched the youngster in action on Thursday evening.

The Lowdown: Gers prepare for new season

With the 2020/21 campaign now over, the Gers can sit back and look back on what was a fantastic term for the club as they won their first major trophy in 10 years.

They will also not want to rest on their laurels and will therefore be looking to see where they can improve their squad. Fashion Sakala has already joined the club (rangers.co.uk), and others are likely to follow, with the addition of possible Champions League football next term sure to test the depth of Steven Gerrard's squad.

The Latest: Gers eye Harroui

As per this latest report, one of those new arrivals could be 23-year-old Harroui.

The Gers are said to have sent scouts to watch the youngster play for the Netherlands at the U21 European Championships, a tournament which the Oranje exited after losing to Germany in the semi-finals just 48 hours ago.

A recruitment source has reportedly told Football Insider the Ibrox outfit are now weighing up a move for the youngster, whose contract expires in 2022.

The Verdict: Interesting signing

So far in his short career, Harroui has shown himself to be a central midfielder with plenty of attacking threat. He already has 28 senior goals to his name, and has also managed 21 assists (Transfermarkt).

During his country's recent run to the U21 European Championships semi-finals, he played in all but one game, also providing two assists.

With a market value of of £3.15m (Transfermarkt), he could be available for a reasonable price considering he has just one year left on his contract.

It remains to be seen whether the Gers' scouts liked what they saw in Hungary and therefore make a concrete move for Harroui, but he appears to boast plenty of potential.

In other news, Rangers have been urged to sign striker this summer.
