Glasgow Rangers are still in the hunt to sign Daniel Johnson after he rejected a club-record new contract at Preston North End, according to Football Insider.
Johnson still on radar
Preston were keen to keep Johnson, but he recently turned down a club-record new deal. As such, the Ibrox side are still eager to take him north of the border. They would rather complete a pre-contract agreement, though, rather than pay a fee to sign him this month.
Johnson was in fantastic form last season for Preston, scoring 12 goals and providing eight assists. This term, he is not doing too badly either, with four goals and three assists in 18 matches. Such is his ability, he has been called “phenomenal” by his former teammate at Deepdale, Daryl Hogan.
Would you like to sign Daniel Johnson?
Preston are still keen to earn a multi-million pound fee from Johnson’s sale, but at this point, it could well be the Gers who hold all the cards. At the end of the day, they know he is available for free in the summer, even if that should provide more competition for his signature. Ross Wilson must keep a cool head to put the Gers in the strongest possible position to get a deal over the line that will see Johnson become a Rangers summer arrival.
