According to The Athletic, Glasgow Rangers have completed a deal to sign Orange County’s Francis Jacobs.
Gers sign Jacobs
Jacobs is the youngest-ever professional football player in the United States, putting pen to paper on his first senior deal at the age of 14 years, four months and 29 days – that beat Freddy Adu’s previous record by a few weeks.
Now 15, the Gers have reportedly come to agreement over his signature – the Ibrox outfit have a partnership with Orange County.
Given his age, there is likely to be big expectations on the youngster’s shoulders. Adu’s career should be a cautionary tale for Jacobs and his entourage – the future of the game in the U.S was pinned on the prodigy, but he failed to live up to the hype and currently plays in the Swedish third tier at the age of 31.
Are you happy with the signing of Jacobs?
Rangers will hope that Jacobs’ career trajectory is better than that. A move to Rangers makes sense – there are big expectations at Ibrox, but he should be able to develop unnoticed by the U.S public in Scotland, as opposed to Ado who was constantly in the spotlight. Given the right footballing education, this could be a clever signing from Ross Wilson and co – the talent is clearly there.
In other news, Rangers fans slam this SFA statement.
