According to Goal.com, Glasgow Rangers transfer target Joseph Okumu is closing in on a move to Belgian outfit KAA Gent.
The Lowdown: Gers eye Okumu
The Gers have been heavily linked with a move for the Kenya international, who currently plays for Elfsborg in the Swedish Allsvenskan.
The Latest: Gers set to miss out
However, it appears that the Gers will miss out on Okumu.
This latest report from Goal.com reveals that the centre-back has been allowed to travel to Belgium to complete talks with Gent ahead of a transfer.
The Verdict: Blow for Gerrard
This will no doubt come as a blow for Steven Gerrard and co. The Gers’ preparations for the new campaign are well underway and they will want to be ready for their impending Champions League run as soon as possible. To miss out on a top target is far from good news, especially one who was said to have “everything to succeed at the top” by former youth coach Benedict Wanjala (capitalfm.co.ke).
Should Rangers sign Okumu?
Okumu does not have a whole host of experience under his belt – he has only made 41 appearances for Elfsborg (Transfermarkt) – but the interest in his services from across Europe suggests that he has a big future ahead of him. Unless Ross Wilson can swoop at the last minute, it looks like the Gers will have to go back to the drawing board.
In other news, Kieran Maguire has provided this big Rangers finance update.
