Charlton manager Lee Bowyer has revealed that the club have accepted three bids from Championship sides for Alfie Doughty, despite Glasgow Rangers also making an offer for the 21-year-old.
Doughty bids accepted
The Gers had been linked with a move for Doughty, and they were even lodged a bid for his services.
However, it seems that three unnamed Championship clubs have stolen a march on the Ibrox outfit, with Bowyer admitting:
“There are three Championship sides that we have agreed terms with. I expect Alfie will speak to all three of them. I think he should.
“Don’t just make a rash decision – he should speak to all three. He’s been really good. He’s not been knocking on the door. But this is football – these are things you can’t control.”
This is a blow for Steven Gerrard, Ross Wilson and the 54-time Scottish champions. The youngster, called “outstanding” by Bowyer in 2019, has scored once and provided two assists in seven games for the Addicks so far this campaign, and clearly has a big future ahead of him in the game.
Would you like to sign Alfie Doughty?
The Gers were attempting to take advantage of cross-border rules to sign Doughty on a pre-contract, but it now looks as though he is to remain in England. It is back to the drawing board for the Gers as they look to boost their squad for the future.
In other news, Rangers fans are upset at this latest Gerrard reveal.
