According to The Daily Record, Glasgow Rangers will need to pay £2.7m for Bongani Zungu if they want to keep him beyond next summer.
Purchase option for Zungu
Rangers were linked with a move for Zungu throughout the transfer window, but they didn’t get a deal over the line until deadline day.
What initially looked like it was going to be permanent transfer ended up being a loan deal but now, it has been revealed that the Gers will need to pay £2.7m to sign him next summer. That is considerably less than the £4.5m they were originally quoted in July.
Bargain for Gerrard
There is no doubt that this deal looks like a bargain. Rangers are now getting a £1.8m discount on the 28-year-old, and they even have the luxury of having him for a season first before deciding whether they want to keep him long-term. If they do pay the money demanded, you would expect him to have made a big impression in Scotland.
Do you think Zungu will joing permanently?
Rangers are getting a player with experience in one of Europe’s top five leagues, whilst he also has 24 caps for his country. It remains to be seen whether he can make the grade with the 54-time Scottish champions, but the details of the deal mean that if he performs well, Steven Gerrard can choose to keep the player at what could be a bargain price.
