# Rangers: Whelan expects ‘inevitable’ big offer for Alfredo Morelos

**Noel Whelan believes it is “inevitable” that Glasgow Rangers will receive a big-money offer for Alfredo Morelos this summer.**

### **Whelan expects big offer**

Morelos was heavily linked with a move away from Ibrox last summer, but despite reportedly [agreeing personal terms with Lille](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/rangers-fc-transfer-rumours/glasgow-rangers-alfredo-morelos-reportedly-agrees-to-join-ligue-1-side-lille/), he stayed with the 54-time Scottish champions.

[Speaking to Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/big-rangers-offer-incoming-morelos-exit-inevitable-after-gerrard-drops-hint-whelan/), Whelan appears to expect the Colombia international to leave at the end of this campaign. He said:

> *“I think* *whenever you’ve got a goalscorer, and one that’s been prolific for a number of seasons like Alfredo Morelos, there’s going to be interest in every window.*
>
> *“If a big offer comes in, and it will, I think it’d be very hard for Rangers to turn down. I think that is inevitable. Yes, they’re a giant of a club in Scotland but financially, we all need that little bit of help.*
>
> *“If you’ve got a player that is somebody that is a commodity, that can generate that amount of revenue with one sale then it’s hard not to look any further than letting them go.*
>
> *“You can build and put that money into sustaining the football club. You can put that money into maybe three or four players out there on the field.*
>
> *“He’s served his time at Rangers, he’s been there a long time. He’s given them lots of highs, some headaches along the way. If he does leave, the club buying him know what’s in his makeup.”*

### **Great servant**

This has been a difficult campaign for Morelos. As previously mentioned, a move away from the Gers looked close, which may have had a mental effect on him. Steven Gerrard chose not to start him in three successive league matches ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alfredo-morelos/leistungsdaten/spieler/338962)), and he has received two retrospective bans after allowing his temper to get the better of him on the pitch ([BBC](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/55892793)).

He has not been quite as prolific this term as he has in the past, but he still has [13](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alfredo-morelos/leistungsdaten/spieler/338962) goals in 33 games in all competitions. He has shone in particular in the Europa League, scoring [five](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alfredo-morelos/leistungsdaten/spieler/338962) times and providing an impressive seven assists in 11 matches. Currently valued at £10.8m ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alfredo-morelos/marktwertverlauf/spieler/338962)), the Gers will no doubt feel they can command a bigger fee than that. Given his contribution to what has the potential to be a very successful campaign for the 54-time Scottish champions, no-one would begrudge him a big move.
