# Rangers: Gers set to sell George Edmundson

**According to [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-ipswich-town-agree-to-sign-rangers-star-edmundson/), Glasgow Rangers are set to sell George Edmundson to Ipswich Town this summer for a fee of at least £1m.**

### **The Lowdown: Edmundson without a Gers future**

Edmundson was once called “faultless” by Steven Gerrard ([via The Glasgow Times](https://www.glasgowtimes.co.uk/sport/17951531.steven-gerrard-heaps-praise-faultless-george-edmundson-rangers-league-debut-ibrox/)), but he has fallen down the pecking order at Ibrox in recent times.

As such, in January he was loaned to Derby County for the second half of the 2020/21 campaign.

### **The Latest: Gers set to sell Edmundson**

As per [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-ipswich-town-agree-to-sign-rangers-star-edmundson/), it now appears the 23-year-old is set to depart the 55-time Scottish champions.

This latest report even claimed that the Gers have agreed to sell the centre-back to the Tractor Boys, with the deal set to be worth around £1m.

### **The Verdict: Right decision**

This appears to be the right decision for all involved. Gerrard has a number of options at his disposal at the heart of his defence, as with Nikola Katic returning to fore after a long-term injury ([rangers.co.uk](https://www.rangers.co.uk/article/nikola-katic-is-ready-to-return/2tTF5YYYUD8YfsjWXaw9t2)), there are now several other centre-backs in the squad with Connor Goldson, Filip Helander and Leon Balogun.

Edmundson was never really going to get a look-in at Ibrox. All in all, he has made just [17](https://www.transfermarkt.com/george-edmundson/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/385848/verein/124) appearances since since signing from Oldham Athletic in 2019, and he has never been able to establish himself in the side. As such, an impending fee of £1m is a real boon for Rangers.
