# Rangers: Humza Yousaf slams Gers supporters

**Scotland’s Justice Secretary Hamza Yousaf has slammed some Glasgow Rangers fans following their celebrations across the city on Saturday.**

### **The Lowdown: Gers fans take to the streets**

On Saturday, Rangers beat Aberdeen 3-0 to end the Premiership season unbeaten ([BBC](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/scottish-premiership/table)). It was also the day the players received the trophy at Ibrox – as a result, thousands of fans took to the streets across Glasgow to celebrate.

Unfortunately, there were some unsavoury scenes across the day – 20 arrests were made, while some police officers were injured after altercations with the crowds ([firstpost.com](https://www.firstpost.com/sports/police-officers-injured-20-arrests-made-as-rangers-fans-title-celebration-turns-violent-9625421.html)).

### **The Latest: Yousaf slams supporters**

Yousaf was far from happy with what he saw and took the opportunity to criticise those fans who indulged in anti-social behaviour. He said ([via The National](https://www.thenational.scot/news/19306176.humza-yousaf-slams-selfish-rangers-fans-thousands-gather-win/)):

> *“I understand the significance of this day for Rangers fans but I am extremely disappointed that supporters have once again ignored Covid regulations and chosen to gather in large numbers in Glasgow.*
>
> *“This selfish and irresponsible behaviour endangers the lives of others – supporters, the police on duty and the wider community.*
>
> *“I want to thank the police for incredibly difficult job they are doing keeping our communities safe throughout the pandemic.*
>
> *“We have already discussed this with Rangers and will liaise with Police Scotland and the football authorities to consider what further action can be taken.”*

### **The Verdict: Small minority**

Some of the scenes involving Rangers were disappointing. This was supposed to be a day of pure joy, yet it was tarred by a minority who could not control themselves. Unfortunately, this is something we see on a regular basis in football – all of the Gers supporters should not be held responsible for the acts of a few.

While Yousaf does have a point, it would be interesting to hear his thoughts on the [large crowds](https://www.edinburghlive.co.uk/news/edinburgh-news/delays-edinburgh-city-centre-crowds-20605636) who took to the streets of Edinburgh for the Solidarity for Palestine protest. That cause is more important than winning a trophy, but it cannot be one rule for some and a different one for others, which appears to be the case here.
