# Rangers: James Tavernier tipped for PL success

**Michael Ball has said that Glasgow Rangers captain James Tavernier would have no problems succeeding in the Premier League if he were to make the move to England.**

### **Tavernier praised**

The [£4.5m-valued](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/james-tavernier/marktwertverlauf/spieler/62094) 29-year-old (Transfermarkt) has been [linked](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-9027619/What-does-James-Tavernier-need-recognised-Premier-League.html) with a number of top-tier English sides recently, including Tottenham and West Ham United.

[Speaking to The Daily Record](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/james-taverniers-rangers-form-should-23158517), Ball believes the right-back would do well south of the border. He said:

> *“There are people in* *England who know football and what Tav is doing.*
>
> *“But then you get the lazy ones who say: ‘Yeah but it’s only in Scotland.’*
>
> *“And because Rangers went through a tough time, people probably don’t recognise it as much. It will always be thrown at him: ‘Can he do it down south?’*
>
> *“There’s no question he could do it down here.*
>
> *“If you look at Walker they’re very similar – he’s got that speed to get forward and the ability as well.”*

### **An unanswered question**

This season, Tavernier has been in stunning form for the Ibrox outfit. With [17](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/james-tavernier/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/62094) goals and 13 assists in all competitions, he [leads the way](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/rangers-fc/leistungsdaten/verein/124/reldata/%262020/plus/1) in both departments amongst his teammates, despite being a defender. In fact, they are numbers that could compete with strikers across the continent – no wonder Steven Gerrard has called him [“outrageous”](https://www.glasgowlive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/steven-gerrards-special-praise-outrageous-19034955) this term.

At Rangers, he is given that freedom to attack and contribute offensively – something he may not be afforded elsewhere. At the moment, he suits Gerrard perfectly – there is absolutely no need for him depart other than perhaps an increased pay-packet.

You get the feeling Tavernier himself is also happy with the 54-time Scottish champions, so whether he would succeed in England may remain an unanswered question.
