# Rangers: Tavernier wants Ryan Kent departure

**James Tavernier has said that he would like to see Glasgow Rangers winger Ryan Kent in the Premier League after this season.**

### **Kent to play in England**

Kent was linked with a move south of the border during the past transfer window – Leeds United had a [£10m](https://www.rte.ie/sport/soccer/2020/0821/1160496-rangers-reject-leeds-l10m-bid-for-kent/) bid rejected for the 24-year-old – but he ended up staying in Scotland.

Gers captain Tavernier, though, says that he would like to see him play in the English top flight. He [said](https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/sport/football/6326133/rangers-tavernier-kent-english-prem/):

> *“Ryan has all the qualities to become a really top player. He’s getting there, you can see that.*

> *“He’s scoring goals and adding numbers to his game. Hopefully that will continue.*
>
> *“He is showing incredible consistency. There is nothing better I’d like to see than Ryan in the Premier League and hopefully that day will come — after this season.”*

### **Only a matter of time**

It says it all when the club captain is eager to see a teammate play in another league. The truth is, top players do not ply their trade in Scotland for too long. If Kent wants to leave a lasting impression on the game at the highest level, then a move to the Premier League – or another top five European division – is a must. Recently, Kent was tipped by Gabriel Agbonlahor to [turn down a new contract](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/rangers-fc-news/rangers-gers-ryan-kent-new-contract-steven-gerrard-ibrox-gabriel-agbonlahor/) at Rangers.

For the Gers, it is about getting the money they deserve for the former Liverpool man. He still has [over two years left](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ryan-kent/profil/spieler/279457) on his deal with the 54-time Scottish champions, and was signed for the rather big fee of [£7m](https://archive.news.stv.tv/sport/1440449-rangers-sign-liverpool-s-ryan-kent-on-four-year-deal.html#:~:text=Rangers%20have%20completed%20the%20signing,Steven%20Gerrard's%20side%20last%20season.). Arguably, the Gers should be looking for at least double that when they do let him leave.
