# Rangers: New Glen Kamara deal is Gerrard’s priority

**[According to Sky Sports’ Charles Paterson (Transfer Centre, 04/01/2021, 13.55)](https://www.skysports.com/transfer-centre), Glasgow Rangers manager Steven Gerrard’s priority this January is tying Glen Kamara down to a long-term contract.**

### **New Kamara deal the priority**

Kamara signed for the Gers in January 2019 on a four-year deal, with his contract set to [run out in the summer of 2023](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/glen-kamara/profil/spieler/242632). Gerrard, though, is keen to see him put pen to paper on a new agreement.

So much so, securing the future of the Finland international is said to be Gerrard’s priority during a month in which the Ibrox outfit will be looking to hold on to all of their best players.

In what has been a fantastic season for the Gers so far this campaign – they lead the Premiership by [19](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/scottish-premiership/table) points, are in to the Europa League round of 32 and have lost just [one](https://www.skysports.com/rangers-results) match all season – Kamara has been a key member of the first-team. He has played in [all but four](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/glen-kamara/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/242632) of their games in all competitions, scoring twice.

He was the [subject of interest](https://www.francefootball.fr/news/Mercato-glen-kamara-glasgow-rangers-plait-a-l-om/1132857) from Ligue 1 side Marseille during the previous transfer window, while The Athletic say that he is worth [£10m](https://theathletic.com/2187307/2020/11/17/rangers-squad-ranking-47th-in-the-world/) at the moment. Previously called a [“class act”](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11788/11645637/rangers-boss-steven-gerrard-praises-glen-kamara-as-a-class-act-ahead-of-hamilton) by Gerrard, the last thing the 54-time Scottish champions will want is Kamara leaving any time soon. An enticing contract offer should convince the former Dundee man to stay put for the time being.
