# Rangers: Jordan Campbell reacts to Filip Helander injury

**Rangers correspondent for The Athletic [Jordan Campbell](https://twitter.com/JordanC1107/status/1513120645437136898) gave an immediate reaction as central defender Filip Helander was forced off in the first half against St.Mirren.**

### The lowdown: Another absence beckons

The 28-year-old has endured a wretched time with injuries since arriving in Scotland from Serie A side Bologna in 2019 for a reported £3.5million ([BBC](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48947805)).

After missing [22 matches](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/filip-helander/verletzungen/spieler/198067) in 2019/20 with a foot problem, the fully-fledged Sweden international has already been absent for 32 fixtures this term following knee surgery.

Now it appears that the towering centre-back could be facing another spell on the sidelines…

### The latest: Campbell concerned

Taking to [Twitter](https://twitter.com/JordanC1107/status/1513120645437136898), journalist Campbell lamented the [19-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/filip-helander/nationalmannschaft/spieler/198067/verein_id/3557) Swedish ace’s latest setback: “Filip Helander now down. Not what Rangers need.”

Helander was left floored following a battle with Eamonn Brophy and was replaced before half-time by 18-year-old Leon King as Giovanni van Bronckhorst was forced to reshuffle the pack once more – John Lundtram went off earlier in the half with a [suspected](https://twitter.com/JordanC1107/status/1513115005352296451) groin issue.

The Gers now face the prospect of being [without](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/glasgow-rangers/sperrenundverletzungen/verein/124) Ianis Hagi, Ryan Jack, Alfredo Morelos, Lundstrum and Helander for the Scottish Cup semi-final showdown at Hampden Park against Celtic.

### The verdict: Huge blow

Issues are well and truly mounting up now for Rangers and yet another problem for the Swedish defender has come at the worst possible time with a must-win [Europa League second leg clash](https://www.rangers.co.uk/matches/mens-fixtures/AspTKSwoJQCzAqaBnP73A) with Braga on the horizon.

Branded a [‘leader’](https://www.fourfourtwo.com/news/gerrard-heaps-praise-leader-helander) following a string of impressive early displays at Ibrox, losing the powerful defender, who has made 3 clearances, one tackle and 3.2 aerial duels per game ([Sofascore](https://www.sofascore.com/player/filip-helander/168749)), is a big blow to Van Bronckhorst’s plans.

Should the Swede indeed face a prolonged spell in the treatment room at Murray Park, the Dutch boss may turn to Leon Balogun or the [lesser-seen](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jack-simpson/leistungsdaten/spieler/419930) Jack Simpson to partner Connor Goldson.
