# Rangers: Gers facing Premier League competition for Josh Tymon

**[Glasgow Rangers](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/rangers-fc-news/) and Giovanni van Bronckhorst are interested in signing Josh Tymon but face competition from England, according to a report from [The Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/leeds-transfer-news-marsch-pushing-27481920).**

### The lowdown: Bassey replacement?

This [interest](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/rangers-fc-news/stoke-transfer-news-tymon-spfl/) resurfaces as speculation linking left-back Calvin Bassey with a move to Ajax goes into overdrive, with contact [reportedly](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-transfer-news/calvin-bassey-charms-ajax-rangers-27485704) being established between the 22-year-old and the Dutch Eredivisie champions.

[Signed](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/josh-tymon/transfers/spieler/419929) by Stoke City on a free transfer in 2017, Tymon is an academy graduate from the Hull City ranks having made just [14 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/josh-tymon/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/419929/verein/3008) for his hometown club.

The 23-year-old England youth international has developed impressively since making the switch and has now amassed [87 outings](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/josh-tymon/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/419929) for the Potters, also spending time on loan at MK Dons and more recently FC Famalicão.

### The latest: Gers’ interested

As per [The Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/leeds-transfer-news-marsch-pushing-27481920), both Rangers and Leeds United are ‘interested’ in the [five-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/josh-tymon/nationalmannschaft/spieler/419929/verein_id/22907) England Under 20 starlet.

A journalist for the outlet, David Anderson, wrote in his column that the Glasgow giants would need to pay ‘more than the £5million being quoted’ in order to sign Tymon.

Elsewhere, Van Bronckhorst appears to be edging towards completing a [fifth summer signing](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/glasgow-rangers/transfers/verein/124) in the shape of talented Bayern Munich midfielder Malik Tillman on loan ([Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11788/12652447/malik-tillman-rangers-close-in-on-loan-deal-for-bayern-munich-midfielder)).

### The verdict: Ready-made

Although losing a player of the magnitude of Bassey would be a huge blow to the Gers’ cause ahead of next term, Tymon represents more or less a [like-for-like replacement](https://fbref.com/en/stathead/player_comparison.cgi?request=1&sum=0&comp_type=by_type&dom_lg=1&spec_comps=big_5&player_id1=a36524bf&player_id2=efe6f6ac) for the Nigeria international when it comes to age, [profile](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/vergleich/spielervergleich/statistik/def/spieler/461883&419929) and desire to influence matches at both ends of the pitch.

Capable of playing as a central defender, the man recently hailed for an [‘incredible season’](https://twitter.com/samfosy11/status/1440418042425470981) by journalist Sam Egerton [predominantly](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/josh-tymon/leistungsdaten/spieler/419929) operates as a natural left-back and can also play in more advanced wide areas.

During 2021/22, Tymon [scored three times and provided four assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/josh-tymon/leistungsdaten/spieler/419929/plus/0?saison=2021) from 49 appearances across all competitions, earning an impressive 6.80 [Sofascore](https://www.sofascore.com/player/josh-tymon/830238) rating whilst winning 3.7 duels, completing 1.1 dribbles and making 1.2 key passes per game in the Championship – highlighting remarkable defensive acumen, attacking prowess and all-important durability.

Valued at £1.62million and under contract until 2025 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/josh-tymon/marktwertverlauf/spieler/419929)), signing the Englishman for a little over the mooted demands would make plenty of sense for the Ibrox hierarchy, particularly upon receipt of the likely healthy Bassey windfall.
