# Leeds: Journalist backs Tottenham to sign Raphinha this summer

**Tottenham should sign Leeds United star Raphinha after [missing out on](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2022/jan/25/tottenham-have-376m-bid-for-winger-luis-diaz-rejected-by-porto) winger Luis Diaz in January, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.**

### The Lowdown: Raphinha’s future at Leeds unclear

The Brazilian has arguably been the [Whites’ best player](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/19/Show/England-Leeds) this season, leading their Premier League scoring charts with [nine goals](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/300447/Show/Raphinha), including one in Sunday’s 4-2 defeat at home to Manchester United.

However, constant [speculation](https://www.givemesport.com/87972811-raphinha-wont-be-at-leeds-next-season) surrounds the winger’s future at Elland Road, with a host of elite clubs [linked](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/raphinha-jarrod-bowen-liverpool-breaking-23161604) with a move for him at the end of the season. At least the 25-year-old’s current deal [does not expire](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/raphinha/profil/spieler/411295) until the summer of 2024, so only a huge bid could prompt Leeds to sell, in all probability.

### The Latest: Journalist backs Spurs move for Raphinha

Speaking to [GiveMeSport](https://www.givemesport.com/87973875-spurs-told-to-target-match-winner-raphinha-amid-luis-diaz-blow), O’Rourke claimed that Raphinha could be an ideal alternative to Diaz for Spurs after the Colombian [joined Liverpool](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11669/12527169/luis-diaz-liverpool-sign-porto-winger-on-five-and-a-half-year-deal-for-initial-fee-of-37m) last month instead.

The journalist said: “Raphinha is similar to Diaz. He’s a match-winner who can create goals and score goals as well.

“I think if Leeds are unable to tie him down to a new contract or forced to sell him, Spurs should be right in there along with all those other top clubs.”

### The Verdict: Final few months at Elland Road?

Raphinha’s body language [hasn’t always been great](https://thisisfutbol.com/2022/02/blogs/premier-league/leeds-united/leeds-united-joe-donnohue-discusses-raphinhas-body-language-after-villa-draw/) in recent weeks, which has only heightened the speculation surrounding a potential summer exit.

It is easy to see him moving on, with a Champions League club likely to come in for him amid Leeds languishing towards the bottom of the Premier League.

Ideally, Raphinha will sign a new deal at Elland Road – and it may still happen – but the Whites must realistically prepare for him seeking a new challenge in the summer.
