# Real Madrid look to re-sign Arsenal superstar

![Ozil](https://cdn.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Ozil-500x324.jpg)Arsenal fans gathering in the Transfer Tavern for this afternoon’s clash with Aston Villa have been rocked by the news that a star player could be snatched from their clutches.

[*Don Balon* says Real Madrid will look to resign Mesut Ozil from the Gunners, should they part ways with 24-year-old Colombian star James Rodriguez.](https://www.donbalon.com/noticia/detalle/19189/el-futuro-de-james-en-el-madrid-se-tambalea-por-culpa-de-un-viejo-conocido)

Since a meteoric rise to fame at the 2014 World Cup, which earned him a lucrative move to the Spanish capital, James has struggled to hold down a regular starting position in the line-up; with strong competition that includes Gareth Bale, Isco and Mateo Kovacic.

If Real Madrid lose the talents of James, the [report states Ozil is the priority replacement](https://www.donbalon.com/noticia/detalle/19189/el-futuro-de-james-en-el-madrid-se-tambalea-por-culpa-de-un-viejo-conocido)– despite the fact he was offloaded in 2013 following the acquisition of Gareth Bale.

The sale of Ozil to Arsenal was never a population decision amongst Real Madrid fans and the German World Cup winner has come into his own this season, securing 12 assists this campaign in the league- more than any player across Europe’s top-five leagues.

Arsenal will be reluctant to sell their prized-asset, who is also their record signing, but fans are fearful that a massive bid will leave the board with little choice but to accept.
