# Real Madrid: Los Blancos line up Van de Beek for next season

**Real Madrid will reportedly refocus their attention on midfielder Donny van de Beek next year, after failing to sign the Netherlands international this summer, per [AS](https://en.as.com/en/2019/09/08/football/1567927167_907574.html).**

Los Blancos’ [dogged pursuit of Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba](https://metro.co.uk/2019/08/18/real-madrid-make-one-last-push-paul-pogba-transfer-summer-10589674/) meant that a move for the Ajax man never came to fruition, despite months of rumours [linking him with a move to the Spanish capital](https://www.givemesport.com/1494161-real-madrid-have-bid-accepted-for-ajaxs-donny-van-de-beek).

However, with another year’s worth of experience under his belt in the Eredivisie, Real could once again be tempted to bring the 22-year-old to the Bernabeu.

Van de Beek was rumoured to be leaving Ajax for around €50m this summer, per [AS’s report](https://en.as.com/en/2019/09/08/football/1567927167_907574.html), though should he enjoy another fantastic season in his homeland this time around, that fee is expected to rise significantly in twelve months time.

The Netherlands international [scored 17 goals and provided a further 13 assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/donny-van-de-beek/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/288255/plus/0?saison=2018&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=) for Ajax last term, but is reportedly happy to stay in Holland for another season as he feels it is best for his development as a player.

Zinedine Zidane’s [yearn to acquire Paul Pogba](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1162213/Real-Madrid-Zinedine-Zidane-Man-Utd-Paul-Pogba-PSG-Neymar) was well documented this summer, but Donny van de Beek may actually be a much better alternative to the Frenchman next year.

Alongside being four years his senior, van de Beek also seems to have the correct attitude – suggested by his desire to stay at Ajax this season to help his progression – something you could argue Pogba does not have following his [behaviour in calling for a new challenge](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/football/48665393)this summer.

Should van de Beek continue to impress the footballing world by his mature performances in an Ajax shirt, it seems only a matter of time before he makes the switch to one of Europe’s biggest sides, with Madrid seemingly front of the queue as things stand.
