# Real Madrid: Los Blancos want to hijack Lautaro Martinez from under Barcelona’s nose

**Real Madrid could be in for one of Barcelona’s key transfer targets as they look for potential alternatives for the misfiring Luka Jovic.**

The Serbian, who only joined Madrid in the summer from German outfit Eintracht Frankfurt, was meant to challenge leading front man Karim Benzema for a space in Zidane’s starting XI this season.

However, having found the net just [once](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/luka-jovic/leistungsdaten/spieler/257462) in his first 11 appearances for Los Blancos, Jovic was excluded from the squad that faced Eibar at the weekend.

Real comfortably won that contest 4-0 and Benzema scored twice, reaffirming his position as the centre-piece to Madrid’s attack. The Frenchman now has nine league goals to his name this term and sits top of the pile in the [La Liga goalscoring charts](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/spanish-la-liga/top-scorers) heading into the international break.

[Barcelona](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-7600805/Barcelona-identify-Lautaro-Martinez-ideal-man-replace-Luis-Suarez.html) are thought to be extremely keen on acquiring Martinez – an international teammate of Lionel Messi, who the Blaugrana skipper is believed to rate highly.

According to the [report](https://www.diariogol.com/real-madrid/ve-jugar-al-real-madrid-y-pide-a-florentino-perez-que-lo-fiche-traiciona-al-barca-de-messi_20008805_102.html), the 22-year-old is no longer keen on joining Barcelona and has asked his agent to try and sanction a move to Real Madrid in the upcoming months.

This all seems very hasty from Madrid. Luka Jovic is enduring a slow start, but these things happen in football. The same can be said for Eden Hazard, who has also started [slowly](https://en.as.com/en/2019/10/14/football/1571056519_816014.html) in Spain but is now starting to prove his worth with some [promising performances](https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/sport/football/4941318/hazard-finally-arrives-at-real-madrid-with-stunning-rabona-as-150m-ex-chelsea-star-puts-fat-jibes-behind-him/) over the past week.

Splashing out a small (or not so small) fortune on Martinez just months after spending [€65m](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2019/jun/04/real-madrid-sign-luka-jovic-from-eintracht-frankfurt-for-initial-65m) (£55.8m) on a player who has not been given ample chance to prove himself at the Bernabeu seems totally foolish.
