# Liverpool: Reds make Kalidou Koulibaly bid

**According to Corriere del Mezzogiorno ([via TEAMtalk](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/euro-transfer-gossip-liverpool-koulibaly-deal-agreed-tottenham-niang)), Liverpool have made a €75m (£67.2m) bid to sign Kalidou Koulibaly.**

The Reds have been linked with the Napoli defender for the past few weeks, and they are now said to have made their first move for the centre-back.

The bid is believed to be €75m (£67.2m), with Klopp believing he would be a dream partner for Virgil van Dijk at the heart of his defence.

The speculation linking Koulibaly with a switch to Anfield refuses to go away, and you can certainly understand why the Reds would be interested in signing him. The Senegal international has averaged a WhoScored rating of [over seven](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/90880/Show/Kalidou-Koulibaly) for each full season he has spent with the Serie A outfit, for example.

However, in the current market and with a pandemic continuing to wreak havoc across the planet, spending such a fee on one player is surely too much, especially when the Reds have Joe Gomez already to rely on. In the last 12 matches before the season was suspended, [Gomez](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/joe-gomez/leistungsdaten/spieler/256178) and [van Dijk](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/virgil-van-dijk/leistungsdaten/spieler/139208) kept nine clean sheets in the Premier League.

Koulibaly is a fantastic player, but at 28 years old he is hardly a signing for the future. In the short-term, van Dijk and the Napoli man would likely be a wonderful pairing, but it is hardly a duo that could stick around for years and years to come.
