# Liverpool: Fans rage at club’s reported reluctance to pay Timo Werner’s £48m release clause

**Timo Werner’s prospective move to Liverpool continues to dominate the headlines.**

The 24-year-old has been consistently linked with a move to Anfield (BT Sport [via Daily Express](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1286579/Timo-Werner-Jurgen-Klopp-virtual-transfer-meeting-Liverpool-RB-Leipzig)), with his form this year likely to be one of the main reasons why the Reds are so interested in taking him to Merseyside.

The striker has already bagged [30](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/timo-werner/leistungsdaten/spieler/170527) goals in all competitions for current club RB Leipzig this term, including 24 in the Bundesliga, and he is arguably one of the top marksmen [not just in Germany but in Europe](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/statistik/topscorer) at the moment.

The updates regarding the Germany international seem to be coming daily, but the latest one is unlikely to please too many Liverpool fans. [According to Bild](https://www.bild.de/bild-plus/sport/fussball/fussball/fc-liverpool-wie-juergen-klopp-jetzt-um-leipzigs-timo-werner-feilscht-70881812,view=conversionToLogin.bild.html), the Reds want the forward but they are not willing to pay the €55m (£48m) release clause in his contract. They intend to negotiate, but RB Leipzig have no need to sell.

This does not appear to have gone down well with these Liverpool fans at all, as they have taken to Twitter to share their anger – one called it “embarrassing” while another called for club owners FSG to depart and one Kopite drew unfavourable comparisons with [much-maligned](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2016/mar/14/ian-ayre-to-step-down-liverpool-chief-executive-2017) former managing director Ian Ayre. > This is honestly so embarrassing if true.

> Since August 2018, we’ve spent about £8m, but we can’t spend £48m, which is a bargain at that price?
