# Liverpool: Reds could lose £35m on Coutinho deal

[According to The Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8227389/Premier-League-sides-fear-losing-100MILLION-owed-transfer-fees-European-clubs.html?__twitter_impression=true), Liverpool could be set to lose £35m on their deal to sell Philippe Coutinho.

After being sent out on loan to Bayern Munich, it looks as though the Brazilian’s future at Barcelona is non-existent.

The current pandemic has delayed any transfer talk, though – and not only that, it could see Liverpool lose £35m of the original deal they struck to sell him to the Spanish outfit.

Coutinho made the switch to the Camp Nou for [£142m](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2018/jan/06/philippe-coutinho-join-barcelona-142m-deal-liverpool) in January 2018 after pushing for a move for the previous six months – he [handed in a transfer request](https://www.espn.com/soccer/soccer-transfers/story/3176912/philippe-coutinho-hands-in-transfer-request-at-liverpool-source) at the start of the 2017/18 campaign and there were even [rumours](https://uk.sports.yahoo.com/news/coutinho-liverpool-training-protest-bid-force-barcelona-transfer-120636420.html) he was refusing to put in the effort in training in an attempt to force a move.

He has failed to recreate his top form for the Blaugrana, though. In [76](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/philippe-coutinho/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/80444) matches, he managed 21 goals, but the loan spell with the Bundesliga champions shows that he is almost surplus to requirements.

Of course, if the Anfield outfit were to lose £35m of what they should be owed based on performance-related bonuses, it would be a disappointment, but that would still see them pick up around £107m for a player who appears to have lost his way.

That transfer, too, appeared to allow the Reds to sign Virgil van Dijk that very same month for [£75m](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/42496637) – what an arrival he has proved to be.
