# Newcastle United: PIF eyeing Kamaldeen Sulemana

**The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s (KSA) Public Investment Fund (PIF) are reportedly now eyeing up Rennes winger Kamaldeen Sulemana for [Newcastle United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/newcastle-united-news/).**

### The Lowdown: High praise

Sulemana is a player who has received high praise in the past, with new Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag dubbing him ‘technically skilled’ with ‘a lot of speed’ ([Football Ghana](https://footballghana.com/ajax-boss-showers-praises-on-ghanaian-winger-kamaldeen-sulemana)).

Football talent scout Jacek Kulig has labelled him as an [‘enormous talent’](https://twitter.com/FTalentScout/status/1444647061987725312), while his former coach at FC Nordsjaelland, Flemming Pedersen, [hailed](https://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2021/05/21/on-par-with-neymar-manager-says-liverpool-want-his-extraordinary-12m-ace/) him as an ‘extraordinary’ winger who is ‘even faster’ than PSG and Brazil superstar Neymar.

With all those plaudits, the 20-year-old, now at Rennes in Ligue 1, is sure to attract some interest as the transfer window goes on.

### The Latest: Newcastle interest

As per French news outlet [L’Equipe](https://www.lequipe.fr/Football/Article/Pour-rennes-la-priorite-est-en-attaque-en-cette-fin-de-mercato/1346529), PIF are now eyeing a potential move for Sulemana before the window closes.

They have been linked with the likes of Leeds United’s [Jack Harrison](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/newcastle-united-news/newcastle-transfer-news-magpies-have-made-jack-harrison-offer-leeds-united/) and Chelsea’s [Timo Werner](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/newcastle-united-news/newcastle-timo-werner-armando-broja-transfer-gossip-news-updates/), so it is clear that they would like to bring a new wide player in for Eddie Howe, and the Ghanaian starlet is next up on the list.

### The Verdict: Cheaper alternative

Given that they would not be buying directly from a Premier League rival, Sulemana could be seen as a cheaper alternative to the likes of Harrison and Werner.

Similar in playing style to tricksters like Wilfried Zaha and the Magpies’ own Allan Saint-Maximin ([FBref](https://fbref.com/en/players/a62f8bf1/Kamaldeen-Sulemana)), the Ghana international is capable of playing [anywhere](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kamaldeen-sulemana/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/746695) across the front line, and his five goals and two assists last season ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kamaldeen-sulemana/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/746695/plus/0?saison=2021&verein=273&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=)) show that he can be dangerous in the final third.

Nonetheless, with him and Saint-Maximin either side of Callum Wilson, the Tynesiders could form a truly scary trio up top.
