# Report hints at what Everton fear amid transfer saga

**The Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern are still talking about THAT Wayne Rooney goal as they wax poetic about the new dawn at Goodison Park.**

With Ronald Koeman splashing the cash at Goodison Park, the Toffees in the Tavern are hoping the Dutchman can launch a genuine challenge on the top six.

So, with a new era to get excited about, what of Ross Barkley? The boyhood Blue has been [linked](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/transfer-news-gossip-chelsea-barkley-10960914) with the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea after snubbing a new deal on Merseyside, with Koeman [confirming](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2017/07/26/ross-barkleys-everton-career-says-ronald-koeman-100-wants/) he’d be sold this summer.

However, reports from the [Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-4789552/Everton-midfielder-Ross-Barkley-faces-injury-absence.html) hint at a complication. They [claim](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-4789552/Everton-midfielder-Ross-Barkley-faces-injury-absence.html) the England international has suffered a fresh injury in training, just after he returned following a hernia operation.

The 23-year-old [reportedly](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-4789552/Everton-midfielder-Ross-Barkley-faces-injury-absence.html) went down clutching his hamstring at Finch Farm and had to be helped off the field. Now, he’ll apparently undergo a scan, with Everton [said](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-4789552/Everton-midfielder-Ross-Barkley-faces-injury-absence.html) to be fearful Barkley could face an extended layoff.

Whether or not it impacts a transfer remains to be seen, though our resident Evertonians would rather focus on the players who actually want to be at the club.

**Landlord’s Verdict:**

It’s yet more frustration for Ross Barkley. Perhaps a move away from Everton can help him finally embark on the upward trajectory prophesied by so many of our punters, though this ailment could seriously impact the chances of that.

**Thoughts?**
