# Tottenham Hotspur: Rob Guest hints that Gareth Bale is likely to stay at Spurs for another season

**Answering fan questions in a [Q&A for Football.London](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/transfer-news/tottenham-transfer-latest-sorloth-brewster-18973216), journalist Rob Guest has hinted that Tottenham icon and loanee Gareth Bale is likely to stay in north London for another season past his year-long temporary spell, with there being an understanding that an option to extend his stay exists.**

Going on to claim that ‘[there is a good chance](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/transfer-news/tottenham-transfer-latest-sorloth-brewster-18973216)‘ that Bale could remain past his current agreement, Guest believes it is actually pretty likely as he doesn’t appear to have a future at Real Madrid and could instead be a ‘[major part](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/transfer-news/tottenham-transfer-latest-sorloth-brewster-18973216)‘ of Jose Mourinho’s team.

Reports linking the Welsh superstar with a move back to Spurs were commonplace before the transfer became a reality, but increased whispers surrounding Real’s eagerness to offload the [85-cap star](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/gareth-bale/nationalmannschaft/spieler/39381) arguably catapulted major intrigue.

Firstly, a [Telegraph](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2020/09/09/exclusive-real-madrid-willing-pay-half-gareth-bales-wages-facilitate/) piece broke that the La Liga giants were willing to pay half of Bale’s £600,000-a-week salary, with [Mundo Deportivo](https://www.mundodeportivo.com/futbol/real-madrid/20200913/483432877802/bale-real-madrid-manchester-united.html) later claiming that £18.4m would be enough to sign him on a permanent deal.

Soon after, interest in Bale intensified and the Tottenham icon eventually[re-signed for the club](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/54180724) on a season-long loan costing a reported [£20m](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1336550/Gareth-Bale-Tottenham-20m-deal-Man-Utd) including wages and loan fees.

Even if Lilywhites supporters will have to wait for more than a month to see the ‘[unbelievable](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/gary-speeds-praise-for-phenomenal-wales-match-winner-gareth-bale-6452478.html)‘ attacker in action, the prospect of him remaining at the club for longer than his initial loan could excite plenty of fans.

As claimed by [Football.London](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/transfer-news/tottenham-transfer-latest-sorloth-brewster-18973216), there is an option to extend his stay in north London, with Bale potentially keeping an eye out for any permanent move away from the Spanish capital.
