# Newcastle United: Rodrigo Vilca likened to Nolberto Solano

**Rodrigo Vilca, who is currently on loan at Doncaster Rovers from Newcastle United, has already been likened to St. James’ Park legend Nolberto Solano.**

### The Lowdown: Unseen talent on Tyneside

Vilca has never played for the senior side on Tyneside, but impressed for Doncaster in their 1-0 home win against Morecambe on Saturday afternoon, and has since received [praise](https://www.doncasterfreepress.co.uk/sport/football/richie-wellens-explains-why-rodrigo-vilca-reminds-him-of-former-newcastle-united-favourite-nolberto-solano-3390131) from his manager Richie Wellens.

The Peruvian won four of his duels in the game, and also recorded one successful dribble, three key passes and an 80% overall pass success rate ([Sofascore](https://www.sofascore.com/doncaster-rovers-morecambe/GbsJb)).

### The Latest: Solano comparison

As quoted by [The Doncaster Free Press](https://www.doncasterfreepress.co.uk/sport/football/richie-wellens-explains-why-rodrigo-vilca-reminds-him-of-former-newcastle-united-favourite-nolberto-solano-3390131), Wellens has likened Vilca to his fellow countryman Solano, who ended up making a total of 315 appearances for the Magpies, scoring 48 goals and making 79 assists ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nolberto-solano/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/3460/plus/0?saison=&verein=762&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=)), as he ‘receives the ball very well’, adding that he is a ‘really cultured footballer’.

Vilca’s coach also hailed his ‘quality’ and ‘talent’, but admitted that he needs to catch up in terms of producing the same intensity in matches that he does in training.

### The Verdict: Promise

The way Wellens describes Vilca certainly suggests that he has a lot of promise at 22 years of age, and Steve Bruce will be hoping that he continues to impress out on loan.

[Yet to be seen](https://www.transfermarkt.com/rodrigo-vilca/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/639763/plus/0?saison=&verein=9253&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=) by Newcastle fans in the first-team, the attacking midfield player has featured 13 times for the Toon’s U23’s side, scoring one goal and supplying two assists ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.com/rodrigo-vilca/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/639763/plus/0?saison=&verein=9253&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=)), and will no doubt want to show off his quality in League One.

Nonetheless, Vilca is certainly a player for the future, and could hopefully end up having as good of a career in the North East as Solano did if he works for it.
