# Tottenham: Spurs targeting Ruben Amorim as new manager

**[Tottenham Hotspur](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tottenham-hotspur-news/) are now targeting Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim to replace [Antonio Conte](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tag/antonio-conte/) as manager, according to a report.**

### The Lowdown: Spurs assessing their options

With Football Insider recently [reporting](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-tottenham-expected-to-agree-mutual-antonio-conte-exit/) that Tottenham are set to mutually part ways with Conte at the end of the season, the club have now started the process of finding a suitable replacement.

Former Barcelona boss Luis Enrique has been [named](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tottenham-hotspur-news/premier-league-spurs-luis-enrique-antonio-conte-update/) as the lead contender for the job, however he is not the only option for Daniel Levy, with [Mauricio Pochettino](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tottenham-hotspur-news/premier-league-spurs-mauricio-pochettino-update-latest/) and [Thomas Tuchel](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tottenham-hotspur-news/premier-league-spurs-thomas-tuchel-antonio-conte/) also said to be in the frame.

### The Latest: Amorim targeted

According to reports from Portugal however (via [Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/tottenham-head-managers-list-suitors-conte-replacement-cost-e20m/)), Spurs are also targeting Amorim, but he will not come cheap as he has a €20m (£17.7m) release clause included in his current contract.

Tottenham are set to face competition from Paris Saint-Germain, as the French club are considering the Sporting boss as a potential replacement for Christophe Galtier, but the Lilywhites are in pole position “at the head” of the list of suitors.

### The Verdict: Get it done?

[Hailed](https://twitter.com/_marcus_alves/status/1357797307811512320?s=20) as ‘sensational’ by members of the media, the Portuguese coach has done a fine job in his home country, winning [five](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ruben-amorim/erfolge/trainer/65202) trophies during spells with Sporting CP and SC Braga.

That record is particularly impressive given that the tactician is just 38-years-old, still very young for a manager, and he could be ready to take that next step by moving to a top [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) club.

However, Amorim has no experience in England, so appointing him would undoubtedly be a risk for Levy, especially when there are other managers on the shortlist who have a proven track record in the Premier League, most notably Tuchel, who [won](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/thomas-tuchel/erfolge/trainer/7471) the 2020-21 Champions League with Chelsea.
