# Manchester United: Red Devils eyeing move for Ruben Neves

**[Manchester United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/manchester-united-news/) are considering a summer move for Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder [Ruben Neves](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tag/ruben-neves/), according to reports.**

### The Lowdown: Neves set for Wolves exit

The Portuguese international has now entered the final [18 months](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/wolverhampton-wanderers/berateruebersicht/verein/543) of his contract at Molineux where his future has recently been facing plenty of uncertainty.

The Old Gold’s playmaker is [unlikely](https://twitter.com/stevemadeley78/status/1622533188382777346?s=46&t=RPatBiX3XIn-UMzFZp5X2g) to sign a new deal in order to fulfil his ambition of competing in the Champions League, where he’s even previously [admitted](https://www.expressandstar.com/sport/football/wolverhampton-wanderers-fc/2022/09/04/ruben-neves-focused-on-wolves-task-after-summer-move-fell-through/) that he came close to an exit last summer.

Several [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) clubs have been credited with an [interest](https://www.90min.com/posts/wolves-determined-keep-ruben-neves-growing-transfer-interest) in the 25-year-old, and with the Red Devils described as long-term admirers, he could be on his way to Old Trafford.

### The Latest: Man United eyeing Neves

According to Spanish outlet [Sport](https://www.sport.es/es/noticias/barca/ruben-neves-escuhara-ofertas-dudas-82830100) (via [CaughtOffside](https://www.caughtoffside.com/2023/02/12/liverpool-manchester-united-linked-with-a-move-for-25-year-old-mendes-client/)), Neves has attracted ‘interest’ from Man Utd, Liverpool and Newcastle ahead of a potential move this summer.

The Midlands star was ‘keen on a move’ to Barcelona, but with the Blaugrana not wanting to pursue a deal, he is now ‘prepared to listen to offers’ from top-flight sides.

Whether [Erik ten Hag](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tag/erik-ten-hag/) could ‘convince’ the player to join ‘remains to be seen’, so this could be one to keep an eye on.

### The Verdict: McTominay successor?

Scott McTominay is [reportedly](https://www.si.com/soccer/manchesterunited/news/scott-mctominay-open-to-manchester-united-exit) open to an exit at the end of the season amid a lack of game time so Neves could be the perfect successor should he decide to move on.

The [Nike-sponsored](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ruben-neves/profil/spieler/225161) athlete currently averages 2.6 clearances and 2.5 tackles per league game, with five man-of-the-match awards to his name across all competitions this season ([WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/238244/Show/R%C3%BAben-Neves)).

Dubbed a ‘[beast’](https://twitter.com/jimmyconrad/status/1028328941797265410?s=46&t=JIpjfE0NvNm8yT6z9CkCmg) by [Jimmy Conrad](https://twitter.com/JimmyConrad), Neves would also bring leadership qualities to the side being the [captain](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R%C3%BAben_Neves#:~:text=R%C3%BAben%20Diogo%20da%20Silva%20Neves,Premier%20League%20club%20Wolverhampton%20Wanderers.) of Wolves, making him the perfect central defensive acquisition for United.
