# Southampton: Fans praise James Ward-Prowse

**Southampton just about edged past Aston Villa on Sunday, and James Ward-Prowse was arguably the best player on the pitch.**

The Saints just about got the job done against Villa, winning 4-3 at Villa Park. Jannik Vestergaard netted the first, before Ward-Prowse scored two sumptuous free-kicks. Danny Ings completed the scoring in the second half for Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side, but Tyrone Mings, Ollie Watkins and Jack Grealish put the Saints under pressure late on. The south-coast outfit held on, though, and are now [unbeaten](https://www.southamptonfc.com/results/2019-20) in five Premier League games, winning four and drawing one.

Along with his two goals, Ward-Prowse also provided the assist for Vestergaard’s header. It was quite the 26th birthday for the England international.

These Southampton fans were absolutely delighted with his display, and they took to Twitter to share their thoughts.

### **Let’s see what they had to say about Ward-Prowse below**

> To think the idiot Mark Hughes wanted to sell James Ward Prowse to Burnley 2 years ago for £15 mil. I said 3 years ago JWP is a future England captain key let alone just a squad member for Gareth Southgate [@England](https://twitter.com/England?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) at the [@EURO2020](https://twitter.com/EURO2020?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) in the summer [#saintsfc](https://twitter.com/hashtag/saintsfc?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) [@SouthamptonFC](https://twitter.com/SouthamptonFC?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)\

> JWP has been an incredible player for a long time now. He presses, he nails his passes, he wins the ball back, he pushes forward. He has been criticised for been in the Eng side but now I hope the world is waking up to the fact he deserves his place [#bbcfootball](https://twitter.com/hashtag/bbcfootball?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)
