# Southampton: Wesley Hoedt on verge of transfer

**[According to Lalziosiamonoi.it](https://www.lalaziosiamonoi.it/il-punto-di/calciomercato-lazio-hoedt-ha-gia-convinto-si-pensa-al-riscatto-134502), Southampton’s Wesley Hoedt could sign permanently for Lazio as early as January.**

### **Hoedt set to depart**

The Saints signed Hoedt for [£15m](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/41019083) in 2017, from Lazio. However, he has made just [45](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/wesley-hoedt/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/253765) appearances during that time, spending time on loan at Celta Vigo, Royal Antwerp, and now back with his former club.

This latest report says that the Italian outfit are pondering whether to activate the purchase option as early as January. The fee is set at £5m.

### **Will not be missed**

It is unlikely that Hoedt will be missed at Southampton. The Netherlands international did not set the world alight at all at St. Mary’s Stadium. In fact the supporters were [far from happy](https://thisisfutbol.com/2018/09/blogs/southampton-fans-slam-hoedt-display-v-liverpool/) with his performances, with him regularly on the receiving end of plenty of criticism.

[£5.4m-valued](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/wesley-hoedt/marktwertverlauf/spieler/253765) Hoedt (Transfermarkt) clearly didn’t enjoy his time on the south coast – he has said that he [regrets](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-7511997/Joining-Southampton-mistake-admits-outcast-Wesley-Hoedt.html) moving to Southampton. Right now, Southampton are flying high in the Premier League as they sit in the top 10 – they were in the top four at one point. It does not feel like they are missing the centre-back at all, and it is perhaps better for all parties if they were to go their separate ways.
