Rangers fans in the Transfer Tavern have to be optimistic for the future following Graeme Murty’s dismissal and the impending arrival of Steven Gerrard.
The Gers were crushed by rivals Celtic at the weekend, a 5-0 victory for their rivals wrapped up their seventh consecutive Scottish Premiership title. Murty was given the boot shortly after with Liverpool U18 manager Gerrard stepping in this summer in order to try and lead the Light Blues back to glory.
Major investment is needed at Ibrox if Rangers are to end the dominance of Celtic, starting in the summer transfer window. Funds must be made available to the new manager if they are serious about challenging for the title.
There are many areas of potential improvement in the squad, especially up front. Rangers need a 20-goal striker who can fire them to glory. Should Southampton be relegated, they should target Saints forward – Charlie Austin. The former Burnley man is valued at £10.8m by Transfermarkt and would be a wonderful addition in Glasgow, someone capable of making the Scottish Premiership his very own.
The 28-year-old has bagged seven goals in 21 appearances for Mark Hughes’ side but he has failed to replicate his form at Queens Park Rangers, where he hit 18 Premier League goals. A change of scenery could be just what Austin needs to rediscover his best form.
The Scottish Premiership could be just the place with Gerrard gaining a forward who is capable of firing his Rangers side to glory.
Rangers fans, is Charlie Austin the right man for the job? Let us know!
