Rangers supporters have been in high spirits in the Transfer Tavern in recent times after seeing their team beat both Ross County and Fraserburgh this week to maintain their excellent start to 2018.
Graeme Murty’s men began the New Year with an impressive 2-0 success over nearest Scottish Premiership rivals Aberdeen on January 24, a result which moved them above the Dons in the table on goal difference. And the Gers have since added two more wins with a 2-1 success at Ross County on Sunday their 14th league victory of the campaign, and they also got their Scottish Cup campaign off to a routine start with a comfortable 3-0 win at Fraserburgh on Wednesday night, with a Josh Windass hat-trick helping to book their spot in the fifth round, where they will travel to Scottish League One side Ayr United.
Thus, there have been many happy Rangers fans in the Tavern in recent times, and they are likely to be intrigued by a recent report from The Daily Mail, which suggests that in-demand ace Alfredo Morelos is seeking talks with Mark Allen over improving his contract with the Scottish giants.
The 21-year-old only made the move to Ibrox back in the summer but has hit the ground running with 13 goals in 27 appearances for the club, 11 of which have come in the Scottish Premiership to see him top the division’s goal-scoring charts.
And the Colombian striker reportedly attracted the interest of clubs in the Chinese Super League at the end of January, with Beijing Renhe reportedly launching an £8 million bid for the influential forward, which was subsequently turned down by Rangers.
Yet Morelos is now reportedly seeking talks with the club’s director of football Mark Allen over improving his current contract with the Scottish outfit, given that he is reportedly one of the lower earners on just £7,000-a-week.
But whether the financial resources are there to meet Morelos’ demands very much remains to be seen.
Landlord’s verdict: Alfredo Morelos has been outstanding for Rangers so far this season, and it appears that the 21-year-old wants a new contract to match his influence and importance to Graeme Murty’s side.
The striker was reportedly subject of an £8 million offer from Chinese Super League side Beijing Renhe in the latter stages of January, and while the Gers rejected that bid, Morelos reportedly wants a new deal in line with what a player worth over £8 million earns.
And given how brilliant he has been for the club this term, Rangers would be wise to honour his wishes, but whether they have the financial backing to do so very much remains to be seen.
